Pedro Aranda Professor: pecenkovic May 21 2017 Research paper Marxist Literary Theory can be seen in every piece of literature. Even though the reader might not even see it. There is also a possibility that even the author might not even notice it, but if you look closely enough and read carefully. You can find some sort of connection between the literary piece and Marxist Literary Theory. For example, the Marxist Literary Theory can be applied to many different pieces of literature, including George Orwell’s â€Å"Shooting an Elephant.† By reading this text through this lens, the reader can better understand how people tend to express themselves in a society that they don’t really approve of or dislike. What Orwell is saying there is that he can see stuff that the regular citizens don t see because he is a police officer, and he doesn’t like what is happening he calls it â€Å"dirty work.† So that maybe one of the reason why he bashes his own country and hates his job, because he sees stuff other normal citizens don’t get to see everyday. In Conclusion, this is one of the many connection between this short story and the Marxist Literar y theory, because Orwell would be talking bad about his own country. Critical Analysis of the Article The State of the...

Summary Reading assignment 2a entitled The State of the Eco-Union is about sustainable agriculture. The article covers the sustainability of caring for not just the physical health of farm animals, but also their mental health, questioning whether we should be doing something ecologically just because we can, and the entrepreneurial aspect of small, eco-friendly farming. Critical Analysis One of the author’s large arguments is that organic food products have now become mainstream enough that everyone knows what an organic product means, which has inevitably made organic less than organic set out to be. With the government’s organic certification process, they have corrupted the organic movement. I both agree and disagree with the author’s†¦show more content†¦The author also speaks about paranoia when it comes to foodborne illnesses and the relation that plays organic food production. He argues that the U.S. is overzealous in eradicating any potential illness outbreaks from food. While he drifts a bit into stories about a friend in France, he does bring up a few good points in terms of food-safety and the false notion that organic, raw, or naturally eaten foods (like unwashed eggs) are not as safe as irradiated foods. I agree with this argument, pointing to European countries who don’t homogenize dairy products and have low inciden ces of foodborne illnesses related to the consumption of raw dairy products. Additionally, if we were as concerned about food safety as we appear to be, we would ban the same types of harmful food additives as most industrialized nations, such as farmed salmon, genetically engineered papaya, arsenic, flame retardant drinks and synthetic hormones. Conclusion In short, I agree with most of the arguments the author has in terms of the overall health of our organic farming. We need small, artisanal, organic farmers to help keep the organic movement moving in a positive direction. However, I would disagree that government involvement is entirely bad. Difficulty paper Free Essays

Difficulty Paper: â€Å"Near Taurus† In many respects, â€Å"Near Taurus† was a mystery text that perplexed my thought process as I read this masterpiece. For me, as an average reader, I found this piece to be a very difficult to understand; so much so that I can say this is one of the most difficult works I have ever read. The grammar, the stylistic language, the lack of information made the story that much harder to comprehend. We will write a custom essay sample on Difficulty paper or any similar topic only for you Order Now However as I read this text multiple times to understand what is being conveyed, I am still grasping new information by reading in a different perspective. Here is what I came to understand of this story. Let’s take a look at the very first line of this piece, â€Å"After the rains had come and gone we went down the reservoir† (13). This first line gives us an indication that this is an outside scenery and is beautifully introduced to us readers. The author Jumps straight into the scene and it made me contemplate as to where this setting could be at. I then looked back at the title and it hit me that this was outdoors, maybe on a mountain and the characters where looking to the stars. Taurus†, one of the constellations of the zodiac, is the main topic of this story. There are two people who are looking to the sky and are looking for the Taurus, but see other ones like Orion (13). The Taurus is usually seen in the winter season and is established when the boy says â€Å"the body won’t show until the winter† (13). Nevertheless, even though the story was very short, it has still a lot that is uncovered and many passages that left me discombobulated. Initially, the narrator starts to introduce the characters in this piece, stating â€Å"Our voices were high†his, mine; soft, bright† (13). Then, like it was a bad habit, drops the characters description and traits. Why? Is it not important for us readers to grasp who and what the characters are like? Even during the end of the text, the narrator states about the boy in the story, â€Å"l could tell you his name. I could and would not† (13). Perhaps, it is done this way because it leads us readers to look for the surroundings and the setting of the story to make our own interpretations. During the end of this story, the narrator after talking about an incident with the boy, who was most likely teenage lovers with the narrator at the time, Jumps to the future and says â€Å"He died, that boy. Light-years! Ages and ages. And here I am: a mother, witness, a raiser of a boy’ (13). The style and grammar and even the word choice in this line was very intriguing and confused me. When the narrator said â€Å"light years† and then â€Å"ages and ages† was interesting because she Just mentioned that the boy passed away. I felt that she still had some feeling towards this person, and it even made believe that the boys was the father of the boy she mentioned in that line. I was also confused at when she said she was a â€Å"witness. † What was she referring too? Was it the Taurus or did she witness love? Love because I believe this story is a love story because of the word choices of the narrator and scenery depicted in this story. Nonetheless this word choice chosen by the narrator I believe is fascinating but can confuse us average readers. Unlike many books that I nave read over the years, I believe this piece was very difficult and interesting at the same time. Even though the was less than a page, less than 300 words, I believe it said so much without saying much, which is unbelievable! The word play, the stylistic language and the lack of information was the primary ause of the difficult understanding of the text when reading it the first couple of times. However as I continued to break this seemingly unbreakable text, I started to look at it in a different perspective. I then understood as to what this piece meant, and the title played a great role. Furthermore, the way the author chose not to introduce any real information about the characters and left us, the readers, to determine as to what we understand about the scene and setting is fascinating to me. Diversity is necessary for today's organizations to achieve maximum growth and development (Davis et al., 2016). An organization can attain its maximum profit and growth if it has employees of different ideas, diverse plans, and beneficial thoughts. Therefore, the implementation of an appropriate diversity policy is important for the growth of an organization. Importance of Diversity Policy The Woolworths Limited is helpful in order to develop as well as promote diversity for a particular organization. The boards of Directors always perform evaluation of a company and develop diversity related measurable objectives for the particular company. The aim of this organization is to devote them to an inclusive workplace that embraces and promotes diversity. Therefore, it can be said that the Woolworths Limited Diversity Policy include clear objectives as well as a clear aim, which help them to fulfill their purpose. The Woolworths Limited always value the contributions of people with diverse backgrounds and their experiences as well as perspectives in order to provide exceptional customer services in a diverse community. However, it is found that this organization does not have any specific diversity targets. Legislations Influencing Diversity Policies The legislations which influence a diversity policy in any company are- Racial Discrimination Act 1975, Sex Determination Act 1984, Disability discrimination and other human rights legislation amendment act 2009, Age discrimination act 2004, Human rights and equal opportunity commission act 1986, work health and safety act 2011 and fair work act 2009. The program for migrant workers is general skilled migration (GSM) program. Dissemination of Diversity Policies Diversity policies can be spread within all the employees by conducting compulsory staff meetings on a monthly basis or at least in four months. Policies and rules can be easily transferred by mailing them and ensuring that the employees deliver electronic signature, which indicates that they had gone through the critical updates (Kirton Greene., 2015). It can also be done by posting relevant and necessary updates on the official page of the organization so that all can read that at the same time. By providing the employees with revised handbooks in a year can also help in some ways. Review of Policy Review of any policy can be done by considering the policies, procedures and practices that can be identified as strengths and weaknesses in that policy. The areas once identified, are taken for further improvement (Kirton Greene., 2015). The internal forums which can be provided include promotional staff meetings, management meetings, posters and motivational news and appraisals. The external forums can include conferences, seminars, journals, and awards. Recommendations The diversity in the workplace can be improved by widening the recruitment base by using online pages which can be easily accessed by everyone. Development of evaluation form can help in understanding the areas which need improvement. By using the staffs for recruiting new employees can also help in choosing diverse and good candidates. Making clear all the employees about the benefits of diversity and how it can be achieved. Making a good diversity strategic plan helps in achieving goals of the organization for achieving maximum profit.
